Throughout the 1990s the words “Success” and “Huskies Football” were synonymous. A remarkable string of 6 Canada West University titles and 3 Vanier Cup Championships established a real tradition of excellence for Huskies Football.

The success of our football has been a source of great pride for the City of Saskatoon and the entire province. It has brought national prominence to our university and our city. As a result, Huskies Football has been a focal point of overwhelming community spirit, with citizens and alumni claiming the Dogs to be their own.

But tradition does not secure the future!

Emergence of another University football program in the province means greater competition for Saskatchewan-born athletes.

Recent changes to CIAU scholarship rules have changed the ‘playing field’ when it comes to recruiting top-calibre players to the Huskies Football program. The financial clout of other Canada West universities entices potential recruits to consider options other than the U of S.

The Huskies Football  program is blessed with a coaching staff that is second to none in Canada. They have a unique ability to gather a collection of young individuals at training camp each fall and mould them into a team. More times than not- a winning team!

But is the athletes who must carry the ball. The future success of Huskies Football is directly associated with the ability to attract quality people – both as athletes and as students – to the U of S.
